A year ago today......

Excerpt from my travel journal:

August 18, 2007........Virginia Beach, VA................

" We started out the day deciding to go to Monticello. We originally got on 95 North, but it was completely backed up, so we decided to take the back roads. It took us a long time, but we got to see a lot of the countryside. We got to Monticello at around 2:30. As we waited for the house tour, that started at 4:20, we walked all around the gardens and outer buildings. They were beautiful gardens, and it was an amazing day. It was sunny, but cool and balmy. The house tour was only 20 minutes long, but very good. The house was the most beautiful house I have ever seen and it is cozy and homey. The furnishings were all original and in the same places as during Jefferson’s time. The house was sunny with skylights and beautiful rooms. You could pictures yourself living there. After Monticello, we went to Charlottesville and ate in the historic old town at a place call The Nook. It was very good. The old town reminded us a lot of Europe. It had vendors selling wares in the street and it looked like a lot of locals were there, talking with friends. We had gelato—real, I might add. I got Stratchitella, what I always got in Italy. The whole day was a lot of fun. "

A year ago today, we were in Virginia, towards the end of trip out east. We started in Washington D.C. and then went to Virgina Beach, VA. The entire trip was full of good food, good memories, interesting experiences, new sites and surroundings.

Happy Birthday, Mom!

It was just Mom and I this evening, so I took her out to Old Navy to shop and then to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner. We had a lot of fun together. We realized that a year ago today, her and I were sitting in Washington D.C. for her birthday dinner at Old Ebbits Grill.

I want FALL!

I want:

to drink hot cocoa

to see fall colors in the trees

to wear a scarf

to be able to wear my red pea coat

to walk and not die of a heat stroke

to see Ruby in her little walking sweater

to have dark-blond low lights

to go shopping for fall clothes

to be wrapped in a blanket while reading a book

to drink Mandarin orange tea

to watch football on a cold day

to go to Colorado to see the aspens turn colors

to put my flannel sheets on my bed

to eat chili and cornbread!

Am I the only one that is excited about fall coming? And why doesn't anyone say 'autumn' instead of fall? I think it sounds prettier.

My Weekend

I can't believe that it is time for "My Weekend" post already! Time flies when you are busy!
This weekend I:

Passed my Personal Finance Final

Started my last semester of my Junior year in college

Ate homemade peach cobbler

Watched the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics

Got up at 5 am to go to work on Saturday

Had a stressful/busy day at work

Survived 7 wedding cakes (including a 6 tiered mambajamba!)

Walked 3 miles

Went to church

Walked 3 miles

Watched the Olympics

Took a nap

Ate a Rocky-Road ice cream cone

Read

Did a lot of thinking/praying about my future

On Thursday we received the much anticipated t-shirts for work.

This one needs some explanation. The bakery is know for its amazing sugar cookies, and our customers say they are addicting because we put crack in them. We don't.
Let this be a warning!

My name is Lydia. I have blonde hair and brown eyes. I am 19 (almost 20) years old and stand at 5’7 in my socks.

I like bubbles, chocolate, make-up, blue eyes, mini dachshunds, looking at pictures, Instyle, diet blackberry sprite, cake decorating, drawing, listening to music, Forever 21, dried cherries and crasins, all the seasons. I like “Pocket Full of Sunshine.”

I believe in Christ, in love, that exercising makes you feel better, that someday I will live in London. I believe in jeans that ‘fit-you-to-a-T.’

I am young, shy around people I don’t know, confident in Christ, tall, unorganized, sarcastic at times, a planner. I am good at making cookies.

I have a passion for shoes with heels higher than 3'', the coolest parents, and a 6th sense.

I hope in true love, that I can make a difference and that I can see the Holy Land. I hope someday to have a maid.

I remember our Christmas cabin in Allenspark, CO; The 2-day flight to Italy, watching the 2000 Super Bowl in the Azores, going to the Grand ‘Ole Opry, feeling the Eiffel Tower sway, getting my driver’s license, cleaning houses with the Ruckels, Camp Roth, seeing Phantom of the Opera in London, and cross-country skiing on Christmas Day in Oberammergau, Germany. I remember the Blizzard of ’99.

I love traveling, Colorado, Burberry London Perfume, Johnny Depp, my family, London, Bella Zoe and Ruby Sinatra, to walk, café sitting, Christmas, bright bikinis, rainy days, my birthday, fashion, shopping, diamonds, watching movies, BMWs and reading. I love peanut-butter-chocolate-chip-cookie-dough cheese cake from the Cheesecake Factory.

I don’t want to be discontent, mediocre, or judgmental.

I wish to be on vacation, I had money to go shopping and that I could drink orange ice tea on the Isle of Capri again. I wish to relive some of my favorite memories.

I strive to have ambitions, to live my life to the fullest. I strive to follow God’s will.

I forget to go to Christ first when I am in trouble, that Frank Sinatra is dead, to brush my teeth, not to slouch, and to journal. I forget to drink water.

I try to be less negative, think the best of everyone, not to make snap judgments. I try to not beat myself up for eating dessert.

I need a bubble bath, pedicure, a new hair style and aviators. I need a change of scenery.

I think David Cook is hot, Michael Buble is right up there and Josh Groban looks like a cute, impish elf.

I want to be done with college, to own a Beamer, to dress up and have cocktails at Nonna’s, and to go to NYC for New Year’s Eve. I want to learn Italian.

I will be finished with college in 10 months, walk a marathon, take ball-room dance, see an Indian pow-wow, ride in a hot air balloon, build a house. I will see the Great Pyramids.

Most of all….I am beyond-grateful for the country and family that God put me in and the experiences that He has allowed me to enjoy. Most of all I desire to see what He has next for me.

My Weekend

Again, I had another great weekend!

*On Friday, I finished studying at 10am and Amy came over right before lunch! Sorry, that I didn't get any pics, I forgot. We had a great time catching up. It was a perfect day to sit outside under the umbrella, eat and swim. We had chicken salad for lunch and a really good puff pastry with strawberries and homemade whipping cream for dessert. I can't believe that her and Jon have been married almost a year! It is crazy how fast my life is going.

*Saturday went great at the Bakery. We were running around like chickens with our heads cut off at some points. Between having to make two trips to the gas station to get the delivery van running and an event planner that wanted the most expensive cake possible for an oil tycoons' daughter who was turning 16 (they are having the Jonas Brothers playing at the party *sigh*), we were really busy! That night, I got home and went on my 3 mile walk. I walk a total of 36 miles a week. I want to walk a marathon someday, and was disappointed when I found out that Memorial Marathon does not allow walkers do the full marathon, just the half. Oh, well, someday I will do it. It is REALLY hot out! I feel so much better after I do it, though. After getting home and taking a shower, we had dinner and watched The Quiet Man. That is one of my favorite John Wayne's. I love him so much!

* Today, we went to the late service at church, and then came home. While Hannah and Mom got in the pool, Dad and I ran out to Braums and got ice cream, and then he and I walked together. I enjoy walking with Dad, we always seem to talk about what we want to do, our dreams. I like doing that. Well, the pics below are from today....

I am reading Louis L'Amour's The Empty Land. It is a Roth-thing to read his westerns. But they are so much more then western novels. L'Amour is an amazing writer, and I have really gotten into them. I love starting a new book in general, though. It is like going on a trip.
We are letting Ruby get in the pool, spurts at a time. She likes it, but I think she gets a little scared. When you pick her up out of the water, her little paws keep pattling! She is so cute!

Finally, to finish this novel :), I have started a new Bible study about Bible personalities. So far, I have studied Jacob and Moses. I have found a lot of new insights about them. I now am studying Samuel. I liked this prologue about him.
